Philanthropy
Check Out the Following Philanthropic Events and Organizations Associated with Our Fraternity.
The Ability Experience
Founded in 1977, The Ability Experience is the philanthropic initiative of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Its purpose is to instill a passion for lifelong service in our fraternity members while helping to empower people living with disabilities. Some of its events include Journey of Hope, a cross-country bike ride from California to DC, and Gear Up Florida, a bike ride from Miami to Tallahassee. Our chapter has proudly had members participate in both events and will continue to have members who participate.
Pie a Pi Kapp
One of the staples of our chapter, we hold this event once every spring in the Pit at UNC (a common center for student activities in the middle of campus) to raise money for The Ability Experience. Students, facility, children on field trips, and anyone else walking by can purchase a pie (a plate of cream) and pie one of our brothers. An afternoon filled with laughs, this event is a fun time for all involved. Our latest event was held on Thursday March 9th, 2023 where we raised $581.48 dollars for The Ability Experience.
Joy Prom
An annual event put on by UNC's Best Buddies, Joy Prom, the event is a party thrown for differently-abled individuals. Filled with music, laughter, dancing, food, and more, our brothers volunteer at the event and are partnered up with a buddy whom they spend the night with giving them an awesome time. We have partaken in the event for many years, and it has become one of our favorite activities every year. In 2023, it was held on Tuesday, April 4th at the Sheraton.
Purple Bowl
Benefit Night
Partnering with local Chapel Hill favorite Purple Bowl, on Wednesday April 12th, 2023, all orders placed from 4:30 to 6:30 had a portion of the proceeds donated to The Ability Experience. It was incredible to see the shop packed for the full two hours with both brothers and friends of the chapter. We look forward to holding events like this in the future.
